Who was Gatekeeping This?!

🐾

Who is responsible for gatekeeping this tool?! If you trim your dogs nails at home… wow, what a great experience! This grinder bit worked really well, made my dogs nails look short and beautiful, and showed no wear!

Dog nail grinder for dremel tool

First thing to note (and this one’s on me): it is a 1/8” shank. I skimmed the listing and missed that at first. Several of my Dremel tools take 3/32” bits, so this didn’t fit those. I did have access to a different Dremel that accepts 1/8”, and once I switched, it worked great. Definitely double-check the size of your dremel before ordering.

I used it for home use, I did trim/cut my dogs’ nails first and then use this bit to smooth, round, and fine-tune the length. We have an older Italian Greyhound whose nails grow fast, super long and don’t wear down naturally bc she never goes outside! This bit allowed me to get closer safely without bothering her at all. It also worked well on my Cavalier, even with feathered feet, no snagging issues.

Grinding was quick…and had no issues with heat, which I was worried about. And, as I mentioned previously, the diamond surface seems durable with very little wear after use on small dogs. The filing didnt make as much noise as the dremel, so no added issues there. *I will note, my dogs have always been exceptional with nail trims…so I am not suggesting if your dog doesnt like nail trims that this will help in that department*

I’m not a professional groomer, but for at-home maintenance this is a really nice addition, especially if you want nails rounded instead of sharp after clipping. Great for households with kids or older family members with delicate skin.

Extra Nail trimming and No Fuss!

Overall, as long as you have a 1/8” compatible Dremel and your dog tolerates nail trims, this is a solid, effective grinder bit that does exactly what it’s supposed to do, as a negative, this price does seem to fluctuate…when I first purchased it was $9.99, which is a great cost for a DIY’er and if you run a business, I’d be hopeful that this would hold up well.

One added note: I have no direct experience, however my husband who does own animal businesses, says he’s tried these shaped bits in the past to help shape dogs nails, especially when sedated for procedures, and said he’s never found that many of these grinders have held up this well even after 1 use, so they havent used this kind of bit in a while. He plans to try this at work to see how/if it continues to hold up, he was impressed with how well it did on our 2 smaller dogs, but if there’s any updates with longevity especially with larger dogs…I’ll update.
